New York is best known for its plethora of elite private country clubs on Long Island outside of New York City – from Winged Foot to Shinnecock – but the state features plenty of public and resort golf courses for the masses everywhere else. The headliner is Bethpage Black, the state-owned municipal course that will host the 2025 Ryder Cup after providing thrilling finishes during two U.S. Opens and the 2019 PGA Championship. It’s one of the hardest, and most affordable, major championship venues everyday golfers can play. Upstate New York springs to life in the summers and fall with spectacular golf at resorts like The Sagamore in Bolton Landing and Otesaga in Cooperstown, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Two casino properties – Turning Stone, a former PGA TOUR stop, and the revitalized Resorts World Catskills – attract golfers as well as gamblers.
