MISSOURI RISING AS A MAJOR GOLF DESTINATION
With the rise of the Big Cedar Lodge, Missouri has found a place on the map for golfers.
Big Cedar Lodge, a Branson-area resort owned by Johnny Morris of BASS Pro Shop fame, has quickly become of the largest golf resorts in America. When the new Payne's Valley course opens in 2020, Big Cedar Lodge will be the only resort in the world with courses designed by Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Gary Player, Tom Fazio and Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Its innovative Top of the Rock is the only nine-hole, par-3 course to host a tournament for the PGA Tour Champions. The resort also attracts enthusiasts for fishing, hunting and other outdoor recreation. Branson, once only known for its live shows and country music, offers more golf at Thousand Hills Golf Resort, LedgeStone Country Club and Branson Hills.
Central Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks Golf Trail consists of 13 courses. Golfers can stay and play at Old Kinderhook, The Lodge of Four Seasons, Margaritaville Lake Resort, Osage National Golf Resort and beyond. For those visiting Kansas City for business or pleasure, Shoal Creek was named the no. 1 course in the state by Golf Advisor users in 2018.
