A golf destination sweet as peach
As the home state of Augusta National and Bobby Jones, Georgia has a coveted pedigree in the game of golf. At some point, golfers from around the world make the pilgrimage to the Masters, and will likely want to play some golf in the Palmetto State to boot. Jones called the state capital and largest metropolis Atlanta home, and residents have a smattering of semi-private residential community courses to access, though greater resort escapes are nearby. Chateau Elan (45 holes) and Callaway Gardens (36 holes) are easily-accessible getaways, as is the Blue Ridge Mountains escape Barnsley Resort. Another stellar pick between Augusta and Atlanta is the Reynolds Lake Oconee mecca, a resort and community home to six championship layouts and a Ritz-Carlton hotel. The Georgia coastline features historic golf as well thanks to Sea Island, a favorite home for PGA Tour stars and host to a yearly tournament. Savannah, a gateway airport to South Carolina's Hilton Head Island, features a nice mix of under-the-radar gems like Westin Savannah Harbor along with historic public courses within a short drive of the historic coastal city center.
