Cabo San
Lucas, Mexico
If
asked to name the world’s top golf destinations,
few golf aficionados would look to Mexico. However,
there is an area known as Los Cabos (The Capes)
at the southern-most tip of the Baja Peninsula that
will quickly change the minds of the most skeptical
of critics.
The towns of San José del Cabo, Cabo San
Lucas, and "The Corridor" between the
two towns are an amazing destination for pure fun.
The hauntingly beautiful rock formations where the
Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean seem to have
been created to announce to all that see them that
this is an enchanted place. The area offers natural
beauty in every direction; nearly perfect weather,
warm and friendly people, great golf and sport fishing,
a wide variety of other recreational activities,
world-class resorts and wonderful restaurants.
The golf explosion in Los Cabos was led by one
of the crown jewels of Mexico golf, Palmilla.
Built in 1992 by Jack Nicklaus, Palmilla started
a trend that changed Cabo San Lucas from a sleepy
little fishing village to one of the finest golf
destinations in the world. Los Cabos is blessed
with the rare combination of desert, sea, and mountains
concentrated in one ruggedly beautiful area. Shadowed
by the Sierra de Laguna Mountains to the west; bluffs,
arroyos, hills, dunes, and rock outcroppings weave
together and meet an awe-inspiring shoreline. The
shimmering, crystal clear Sea of Cortez is visible
or comes into play on an amazing majority of the
golf holes in Los Cabos. Along with Palmilla, the
area boasts five other world-class courses, all
ranked in the top ten courses in Mexico. The future
of golf in Los Cabos looks even brighter with several
new premier courses in various stages of development.
Although the quality of golf alone would be enough
to lure the masses to Los Cabos, it’s only
the beginning. The waters off Los Cabos are widely
regarded as the best marlin fishing region in the
world. Among the 850 species of marine life are
found in the area. Other great game fish including
tuna, dorado, wahoo, and sailfish are found.
Elegant resorts like the One&Only
Palmilla, the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos,
and the Melia San Lucas line "The Corridor"
as the main road that runs from San Jose to Cabo
San Lucas is known. There are enough outstanding
restaurants
to fill a dozen trips to Los Cabos. The great seafood
is a favorite, but a surprising variety of cuisines
is available. For nightlife, Cabo San Lucas transforms
from a quaint, friendly tourist town to a carnival-like
atmosphere that often rivals Mardi gras.
Whale watching, snorkeling, sailing, jet skiing,
parasailing and off-roading are a few of the other
favorite activities available along with relaxing
by the pool, on the beach, or one of the unique
beachfront restaurants. Mexico is your passport
to fun, relaxation and many great golf experiences!
